Getting the Hang of It: Drifting with Torque Rear in All-Wheel and Rear Wheel Drive

Two completely different vehicle concepts, one result: driving fun at the highest level. Both the R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD and the RS 3 performance edition offer the potential for drifting thanks to special modes. While the V10 engine in the high-performance R8 sports car only powers the rear wheels, the five-cylinder engine in the compact RS 3 sends its power to all four wheels thanks to a quattro system. In this interview, Audi Sport chassis developers Meic Diessner and Roland Waschkau explain how both cars get into the perfect slide.

High Performance in Its Purest Form: The new Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD

Twelve years after the premiere of the first Audi R8 GT, Audi Sport GmbH is launching the second edition of this exclusive super sports car: the new Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD. The 5.2 liter, naturally aspirated V10 engine’s output is boosted to 456 kW (620 PS) making it the most powerful rear-wheel drive unit in the history of the brand. A new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for faster shifts and the new Torque Rear driving mode allows drivers to choose their own level of ESC support. This enables controlled and simultaneously precise oversteering. The seven-stage torque rear can be adjusted via the control satellite on the steering wheel. The new R8 GT is limited to 333 units worldwide. New and exclusive exterior and interior features pay homage to the first generation of the R8 GT. These include, for example, sequential numbering, special light alloy wheels, and an interior in a combination of black and red. The new Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD will be available at dealerships from 2023. Prices start at € 225,000.

The sheer joy of driving meets enhanced performance: the Audi R8 V10 performance RWD

Even more power, even more fun: the true meaning of “performance” at the Audi Sport GmbH. The new R8 V10 performance RWD is available as a Coupé or Spyder with 30 PS extra, a sporty complement to the R8 V10 performance quattro. This rear-wheel drive sports car, with its mid-mounted engine boasting 419 kW (570 PS) and new technological highlights such as bucket seats, dynamic steering, CFK stabilizers and ceramic disc brakes, is the embodiment of fun driving.

Tribute to the successful R8 LMS: the Audi R8 green hell

The Audi R8 LMS has notched up five overall victories since 2012 in the 24 Hours on the Nürburgring – the “Green Hell” –, which is regarded as one of the world’s toughest and most popular endurance races. As a tribute to the great success story, Audi Sport GmbH is presenting a limited special edition of the road sports car at this year’s race on the Nürburgring – the R8 green hell.

Even sharper and more striking: The Audi R8 V10 RWD and the Audi R8 LMS GT4

From special series to standard range: The Audi R8 V10 with rear-wheel drive (combined fuel consumption in l/100 km: 13.1–12.9 (18.0–18.2 US mpg); combined CO2 emissions in g/km: 293–299 (471.5–481.2 g/mi)) is advancing to a permanent model. In this context, its exterior is being redesigned to make it even more striking: It will be fitted with the same new features as the R8 V10 quattro models**. The V10 mid-engine, which delivers 397 kW (540 PS) here, and the rear-wheel drive offer a puristic kind of driving pleasure. The near-production-level Audi R8 LMS GT4 racing car, which also features rear-wheel drive, is being released at the same time, with a new design and noticeable optimizations in terms of vehicle dynamics. The customer sport racing car for the international GT4 category will offer private drivers even more precise adjustment options in the future.

Homage to ten years of the V10 engine: the Audi R8 V10 Decennium

Audi is celebrating the success story of the V10 engine with the Audi R8 V10 Decennium (combined fuel consumption l/100 km: 13,1 [18.0 US mpg]; combined CO2 emissions in g/km: 297 [478 g/mi]*). A 456 kW (620 hp) V10 engine, bronze-colored highlights inside and out, and strictly limited: The edition model with 222 units coincides with the sales launch of the new Audi R8. The name Decennium comes from Latin and means “decade.” It stands for ten years of fascination on the road and success in motorsport.
