What is more delicious than warm gooey dough with chocolate filling? What about warm gooey dough with banana cream and chocolate filling! These chocolate, banana, cream wontons are like a cream-filled donut, but on a smaller scale. They are melt-in your mouth delicious. Once I cooked them, I couldn’t stop eating them. It was dangerous.

This recipe is surprisingly simple. All you need are a few ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

1 medium Chiquita banana (sliced)

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

2 oz. cream cheese (soften)

24 wonton wrappers, half of a 12 oz. package

1 tsp. cinnamon

oil of choice (olive oil, coconut oil)

If you have never cooked with won tons wraps, you can find them fairly easily. While I used to only be able to find them at my Asian or Latin market, they are now at everyday grocery stores. I found them at Kroger and Wal-Mart. Just look in the chilled sections.

DIRECTIONS

Heat oil in a frying pan so that the bottom is well covered in oil. Heat to wonton package guidelines (approx. 350-375 degrees).

In a medium bowl, combine the banana slices and cream cheese. Mash together until blended. (Pre-slice bananas and use room temperature cream cheese to mash easier).

Place a single wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Add a pinch of mini chocolate chips (about 10-15) to the center of the wonton.

Then drop a small spoonful of banana and cream cheese mixture onto the center of each wrapper. Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon.

Dip the tip of your finger into a bowl of water. Moisten edges of wonton wrapper with wet finger.

Seal the wonton by folding over one corner to make a triangle and press sides together to close completely. Then bring the bottom edges together to form the look of a wonton.

Transfer filled wrappers to preheated frying pan. You can test the heat by dipping the edge of the wonton and see if it bubbles. A few can fry at a time.

Fry until wontons are golden brown, flipping wontons 1/2 way through cooking. Less than a 1 minute each side. Lay on a paper towel to drain the excess oil.

For an added touch, sprinkle with more cinnamon, a cinnamon and sugar blend, or sifted powdered sugar. You could even make a dessert dip. Instead of soy sauce, maybe do a warm bowl of caramel or chocolate.

Or… enjoy as is… because they are A-mazing! Let cool briefly, and best served warm.

Inside is a delicious gooey blend of chocolate, banana, and cream cheese. So. Good.

Note: Wonton wrappers can dry out quickly, so keep the opened package covered in plastic wrap or a wet paper towel. You can also keep the waiting-for-frying-pan wontons fresh this way too.
