Bloody Mary Recipe Ingredient Spotlight

Every single ingredient in this recipe is way easy to shop for. Check your cupboards and fridge first, because you probably have some of these items on hand and can cross them off of your list before you even leave home.

Ingredient 1 : Tomato Juice

Choose a tomato juice that you really like. Don’t scrimp here. This is the main ingredient and every other flavor detail depends on it. You can also use a vegetable juice co*cktail that contains tomato juice with a variety of other veggie juices.

Ingredient 2 : Vodka-

Vodka is the alcohol that turns this tomato juice drink into an adult beverage and for many, is the main reason Bloody Marys exist. It may sound funny, but this ingredient is completely optional. Yes, technically your drink won’t be a true Blood Mary without vodka, more of a Virgin Mary, but if you choose not to partake of alcohol, you can still enjoy all the tastiness this recipe has to offer.

Ingredient 3 : Worcestershire Sauce-

Worcestershire sauce is traditional in Bloody Mary Recipe making. It adds fullness and rich dimension to the flavor profile. Beware though, regular Worcestershire sauce is NOT vegan. Nope. Most of the brands in the supermarket contain anchovies or fish sauce. Read your labels before using or buying. There are vegan versions out there. I found a good one at Whole Foods Market. If you don’t care for any kind of Worcestershire Sauce just sub in some soy sauce.

Ingredient 4: Hot Sauce-

Bloody Marys and hot sauce go together. A little heat (or a lot, whatever you prefer) brings all the other elements together. You can make this beverage as spicy-hot as you like. I won’t tell you which hot sauce to splash into your glass. There are so many! Enjoy the experience of deciding. If you don’t tolerate hot spices, just omit this ingredient and enjoy the other amazing flavors.

You’ll be taking your first delicious sip in no time at all!

Cindy’s Insider Pro Tips For Bloody Mary Recipe

Do a different rim -You can substitute salt or smoked paprika for the Old Bay Seasoning. A nice rim is visually appealing and adds to the flavors of the co*cktail as well. Use your imagination to customize your drink and really make it your own.

Load up on your garnish -You can also maximize your garnish. Other options include mini sweet peppers, pickles, cilantro, olives, or even carrot sticks. Create a mini veggie tray in your glass! Adding more vegetables boosts the eye appeal as well as the nutrient content.

Try a different alcohol – Always know that a Bloody Mary can be made without any alcohol. It’s ok to say no thanks to booze. For those who like to include this ingredient, how about trying something outside of the box like gin (red snapper), aquavit, sherry, extra dry vermouth, bourbon, or tequila (Bloody Maria). You might discover something new you really love.
